“Life Is Good In The Woods”
Sailor Springs is a small three-site campground located just two miles outside of the picturesque tourist town of Bayfield, WI. We are excited to host campers on the property and provide a unique camping experience.
The campground is spread out over 5 acres of forest that you’ll hike into from Bresette Hill Road. After parking at the trailhead, you’ll gather your bags and hike into your glamping site. The trail winds through the woods, leading you first to a valley where the seasonal Clark Creek runs through in the spring. The first two campsites are on the other side of this valley. The trail can be steep in spots and requires a moderate level of fitness and mobility to reach the secluded campsites. The third site is a bit farther into the forest, the little A-frame cabin, Anchor sits on the edge of the spring fed Brickyard Creek that flows year-round.
We have many plans for the property and depending on when you stay, the campground will be in various stages of development. The campsites, trailhead / parking area, and trails are scheduled to be completed in early spring. Thank you for considering joining us on this journey to build a peaceful place to play and stay in the woods.

We Recognize. We Honor. Sailor Springs Glamping property is on the traditional lands of the Ojibwe. Following a migration from the east, the Ojibwe lived on what is now known as Madeline Island and other areas surrounding Lake Superior. In the 1800s, the Ojibwe were forcibly removed to the Red Cliff and Bad River reservations. As descendants of early settler imperialism, we take responsibility in acknowledging the original inhabitants of this land, acknowledging the violent colonial history resulting in the displacement of the Ojibwe from their homes, and acknowledging their ongoing resistance.
Wild caught in the pristine waters of Lake Superior
Red Cliff Fish Company is not just a business, but a way of life rooted in harmony with the environment and the legacy of Lake Superior’s native people. Their freshwater fish, including whitefish and lake trout, are wild-caught from the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior – one of the world’s coldest, cleanest and deepest lakes, yielding a unique and abundant bounty. The Red Cliff Fish Company is wholly owned and operated by the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, who have fished these waters for generations. Fishing is not just a job for them, but a core part of their identity, and they are proud to share their catch with the community.
Native American Indigenous Cuisine
Miijim is a small plates indigenous restaurant located on Madeline Island, or Mooningwanekaaning, with a modern twist on Ojibwe Medicine and French cuisine. Chef Bryce Stevenson, a native of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa reservation, leads a food sovereignty movement of Native American chefs. The menu features traditional flavors of game meats like venison, elk, and rabbit paired with foraged ingredients such as island mushrooms, ramps, chaga, and bergamot, with an ever-evolving menu reflecting the seasonality of the Chequamegon Bay. Miijim offers a cultural experience with cozy ambiance, indigenous art, quick-tempo music, local beer, and fine French wines.
The Ojibwe are an important and pivotal piece of the fabric of our community and our community is stronger because of their presence.
